Plymouth Lakes Planned Unit Development
Archetype
Plymouth, Michigan
The 60 acre Plymouth Lakes project had a long and difficult struggle to its eventual approval due to its social and ecological impact to the surrounding areas. Wetland preservation and mitigation were both necessary before government approval of the P.U.D. The township, unused to projects of such size, was resistant to working with the developer, and the community protested the proximity of the P.U.D. to existing neighborhoods, as well as the style of architecture proposed for future construction. Changes to the density of the urban fabric required the initiation of traffic studies with additional lanes and lights eventually added to the roads adjacent to the site. Negotiation and compromise were required, and vigorously pursued, by all parties involved.
My contributions to this project included field observation, drafting, and marketing material preparation.
